Shun Owada makes a set of walls for the exhibition. On one of the walls at the same time are the works of Sasaki and Nakamoto. In between the walls there is an air-filled balloon which is maintained to be fully inflated throughout the exhibition. A device near the balloon is programmed to prick it in a certain probability. The set probability is slightly higher than once for the balloon to break, so it is expected to explode at least once in the exhibition period.

Ken Sasaki presents paintings based on the trajectory of the scientist Satoyasu Iimori. Iimori once worked on the development of A-bomb in Japan and made Junior High School students in Fukushima to mine uranium ore, but after the WWII he abandoned it completely and became deeply involved in the invention of artificial gem. Through the paintings of Iimori’s artificial gems, uranium mine and a cleaning cloth with a smudge of white lead from his painting class on it, Sasaki’s vision gives the same value to the medium and the depicted objects.

Yusuke Taninaka is a sculptor who approaches the world via sculptural thinking and practice. Inspired by the strong visual memory of Kujiranabe (whale hotpot) advert on the motorway from childhood, Taninaka attempts this time to gain a viewpoint to see ‘America’ as a land rather than a nation state. In the midst of the post-sovereign or agonistic cosmopolitics is a magnanimous roar of whales.

Hirofumi Nakamoto collects various aquatic organisms, releases them in his business hotel room and films the scene. The creatures creep and crawl on the bed, behind the bedside lampshade and the shower room. The scene is only weird when we are humans, and the body of Nakamoto, who documents what is happening in the room, is not even a body in a certain circumstance. For this exhibition, Nakamoto makes a film installation consisting of three simultaneous perspectives; Nakamoto who collects the crabs, the camera which shoots the crabs, and the crabs.

Takeshi Hyakutou cuts out and compresses the metabolism of the cities by photographing the suburban landscapes where pre-used and scrap architectural materials meet, just as the reserves waiting to become a part of the city and the veterans discharged from it. The sceneries composed of people’s will and unconsciousness, various chances and dull moments expose a sloppy order appeared there as a result. Hyakutou affirms this sloppy order through his viewfinder.

1990 in Hyogo. Received his M. F. A. in Sculpture from Kyoto City University of Arts in 2015. Solo exhibitions include “approach 2 (oil drilling) ” (Gallery PARC, Kyoto, 2016), “approach 1 (original) approach 1 (archive) ” (Alainistheonlyone, Kyoto, 2015).

Eriko Mukai has been making three-dimensional ‘life-size devices’ which materialises the complex and invisible systems such as slaughtering and dissection, refining of oil or the financial policy of Bank of Japan. Those devices only run through the body of Mukai (when Mukai operates them). Such sculptures-devices give the gravity to phenomena, institutions and systems and open up the possibilities of intervention and thinking. For this exhibition, Mukai gives a form to the mechanism of radioactive decay.
